When I met Thomas Koll , the CEO of Laplink, yesterday, it felt like I was "Back to the Future"! I haven't heard from Laplink since 2001 when, then CEO and founder, Mark Eppley launched PDASync at Demo Mobile. So it was a great opportunity for me to recall some good memories... and I probably bored Thomas and crew with my Laplink for DOS and serial cable story! Anyway, the Laplink team was in the Bay Area for the launch of PCmover 3.0 which now lets you choose which applications you want to migrate. Before, it was "all or nothing"!
For me, the main competitive advantage PCmover has over Detto IntelliMover, CA Desktop DNA and Microsoft's Windows Easy Transfer is that it can also move applications like the Office apps and so on. This is just a great time saver. Of course, it doesn't work for apps that uses hardware drivers or uses non-Windows conformant drivers like systems utilities, as well as spyware (that's good!) and anti-viruses. Another plus is that PCmover migrates all PC user profiles at once and also works with a Mac with a PC virtual software like Parallels Desktop or Apple Bootcamp.
